This is a status update from the Iconresearch.net project.

The icon set that will be used for the first surveys is now complete. The collection consists of twenty interface icons that have a long history and most of which we come across in our daily lives.

In addition to lengthier and more theoretical writings, I have also been gathering mini articles about the first graphical computer operating systems such as the Xerox Alto, Apple Lisa, Windows 1.0 and others. These are an interesting part of recent media history that is rapidly becoming inaccessible.

Luckily there are some browser-based emulators through which You can easily re-live the early days of graphical computer interfaces. Try these out:
